Mal Kelapa Gading had its humble beginnings in 1990 with total retail space of 32,000sqm. Then known as Kelapa Gading Plaza, the mall anchored by STAR Department Store and Farmers Market, quickly became a favorite among the neighboring community.

With an ever-growing demand for greater variety of products and services, the mall went through a phase 2 extension in 1995 which added 40.000 m2 to the total area. By then, the mall had 250 tenants and was serving the neighborhoods around Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and some of Bekasi.

On April 10, 2003, Mal Kelapa Gading opened phase 3 to the public, bringing the total retail area up to 130,000sqm, making it one of the largest shopping malls in Jakarta. Mal Kelapa Gading brings together over 600 tenants providing shoppers with fashion, food and entertainment under one roof.

With the addition of Mal Kelapa Gading 5, the mall evolved from being a family mall to a sophisticated shopper’s haven catering to the most discerning consumer tastes.

The mall also provides entertainment facilities including a Gading 21 & XXI cinema, Timezone games gallery and a 24-lane bowling Viva bowling alley.
